Jana MoravcováThe Life and ArtJana Moravcová - Modlová was born in 1929 in Běhánky u Teplic. She completed her studies at the University of Applied Arts Prague with professors J. Horejc and B. Stefan. In the same year she became a member of SVU Mánes. Since her graduation she has been applying herself to free creation. The National Gallery bought two of her works In 1954. Her work can be found in various domestic and foreign galleries. She co-operates with architects and is mainly engaged in garden sculptures. Her artistic activities tend towards mastering sculptural materials such as stone, wood and metal. At the beginning she worked on motifs of animals, children and busts in marble. Later figures were replaced by more abstract work and her entire creation gained a new dimension. She turns to both organic and inorganic nature. She is fascinated by the mystery of space, the night sky, secret shelters and the memory of gothic cathedrals, she keeps working out new imaginary forms. They exude something generally human that goes beyond time, which we can so intensively perceive. These works contain not only the sculptural structure and rules but also spiritual message.
